Storm Damage Repair

Rapid response for storm-damaged roofs.

When a storm tears into your roof, the order of operations matters more than most homeowners realize: protect the home first, document everything second, repair third — and never let an insurance clock run out while you wait. CraftBuilt's storm damage team handles all of it, statewide, as one process. This page is the hub for everything storm-related we do, including dedicated hail damage and wind damage services and full insurance restoration.

Arizona's Three Storm Seasons

Arizona roofs face three distinct threats. The monsoon (roughly June through September) delivers microbursts, inch-per-hour rain, and dust-driven wind that exploits every aged sealant from Tucson to the Rim. Hailstorms ride along with monsoon cells and spring instability, bruising shingle mats in ways that surface as leaks years later. And high-country winters load roofs in Flagstaff and the White Mountains with snow, ice dams, and freeze-thaw cycling that turns small storm wounds into structural ones. We repair all three signatures — and our crews know which one they're looking at.

The First 24 Hours After Storm Damage

  1. Get people safe and water contained — buckets and plastic under active leaks; stay off the roof.
  2. Call us for emergency tarping. A properly tarped roof stops ongoing damage and is respected by insurers as mitigation.
  3. Photograph what you can safely see: interior stains, debris, downed limbs, the yard's shingle confetti.
  4. Don't sign anything with a storm-chasing door knocker. After every major Arizona storm, out-of-state crews blanket damaged neighborhoods; many are gone before their workmanship fails.
  5. Have us inspect and document before you call your insurer — a documented scope puts you in control of the claim conversation.

What Storm Damage Looks Like

  • Missing, creased, or lifted shingles — wind's signature, often along edges and ridges
  • Granule-stripped bruises and dented vents — hail's signature, frequently invisible from the ground
  • Punctures from limbs and windborne debris
  • Water stains that appear days after the storm, once saturated decking soaks through
  • Ice dams and eave leaks in mountain winters

Repair, Claim, or Both?

Minor localized damage is often best handled as a straightforward repair without involving insurance. Widespread damage — a roof-wide hail bruising, wind loss across multiple slopes — is what your policy exists for, and our insurance restoration team documents, meets adjusters, and manages the claim through completion. The free inspection tells you which path the evidence supports; we'll never push a claim the damage doesn't justify.

After the Storm: How to Vet Any Roofer (Including Us)

Storm aftermath is when roofing scams thrive, so here's the checklist we'd give our own family. Verify an Arizona ROC license number and insurance certificate — ours are on every proposal. Prefer a local physical office to a truck and a magnetic sign; storm-chasing crews follow weather across state lines and their workmanship warranty leaves when they do. Never sign an assignment-of-benefits or "contingency agreement" at the door — it can hand control of your insurance claim to a stranger. Get scope and price in writing before work starts, emergency tarping excepted. And be suspicious of anyone who promises to "waive your deductible" — that's insurance fraud in plain terms, and a contractor willing to defraud your insurer will cut corners you can't see either.

Is my roof safe to walk on after a storm?

Assume no. Storm-loosened material, hidden punctures, and wet surfaces make post-storm roofs genuinely dangerous, and walking hail-bruised shingles can worsen the damage your claim depends on documenting. Binoculars from the ground, photos from a window — leave the roof walking to crews with fall protection.

The storm was weeks ago and I'm just now seeing a stain — too late?

Usually not. Damage often shows up indoors well after the event, and Arizona policies allow claims within a defined window — but the window is real and shrinking on many renewals. Call for the inspection now; the documentation dates the damage to the storm, which is exactly what a delayed claim needs.
